a collective,
an adventure,
a manifesto.

La Diane Française is a story of art, boldness, and transmission. A human, artistic, and pedagogical journey driven by deep convictions, lasting friendships, and a clear vision: that of a French culture that is alive, open, and inventive.
At its origin, a pioneer: Stéphanie-Marie Degand
An extraordinary violinist, Stéphanie-Marie Degand was the first to step on stage and blur the long-standing boundaries between “early” and “modern” music. With rare precision and flair, she moves across baroque, classical, and contemporary repertoires, bringing a newfound freedom of interpretation to the French musical scene.
Her career has taken her to the heart of the most prestigious ensembles — Les Arts Florissants, Les Talens Lyriques, and most notably Le Concert d’Astrée, which she co-founded with Emmanuelle Haïm in 2000. She later became the only artist to teach both modern and baroque violin at the Paris Conservatory — another first.
A constellation of artists serving a collective project
Under her artistic direction, La Diane Française brings together a constellation of exceptional musicians: acclaimed soloists, long-time collaborators, and promising young talents from the most prestigious schools.
It’s a vibrant, rigorous, and generous collective where generations, experiences, and aesthetics meet. Each production becomes a space for transmission, a lab for ideas, and a manifesto for artistic freedom.
A mission: to bring French repertoire to life
La Diane Française, under the baton of Stéphanie-Marie Degand, embraces a clear ambition: to bring the French repertoire to life — in all its historical richness, cultural diversity, and its power to speak to the present.
The project is fueled by a dual commitment:
- Supporting contemporary creation, through commissions from leading composers (Bruno Mantovani, Philippe Hersant, Thierry Escaich)
- Exploring heritage with rigor, in close collaboration with institutions like the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles (CMBV) and the Fondation Bru Zane
A dialogue between past and present, between disciplines and regions
Rooted in tradition but forward-looking, La Diane Française breaks down chronological and stylistic barriers. It explores the depth of French art in resonance with other artistic forms and the cultures that enrich it.
Above all, this is an adventure that aims to be resolutely open: from grand concert halls to schools, from rural areas to cultural capitals, La Diane Française sparks dialogue with all audiences - from the youngest to the most seasoned.
Because music is only truly shared when it becomes a common good.
