Born in Caen, France, she began her musical journey under the guidance of Jean-Walter Audoli and Emmanuelle Haïm. She was unanimously admitted to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where she studied with Jacques Ghestem and benefited from the mentorship of renowed artists such as Jacques Rouvier, Alain Meunier, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, William Christie, Christophe Rousset, Patrick Bismuth and Cristophe Coin.
Her artistic excellence has been recognized by numerous awards, including the Grand Prix Adami, the Ferras-Barbizet Competition, Midem Classical Revelation, the Natexis Foundation, the SACEM Prize, and a nomination at the Victoires de la Musique as “Instrumental Soloist Revelation”.
As a soloist, chamber musician and concertmaster, she has performed in major venues around the world, collaborating with leading conductors such as Emmanuel Krivine, François-Xavier Roth, Jérémie Rhorer and Laurence Equilbey. She regularly appears in chamber music projects alongside artists including Marie-Josèphe Jude, François-Frédéric Guy, Christie Julien, Violaine Cochard, Emmanuelle Bertrand and Marc Coppey.
In 2000, Stéphanie-Marie co-founded Le Concert d’Astrée with Emmanuelle Haïm, serving as its concertmaster and musical assistant. In 2016, she founded her own ensemble, La Diane Française, through which she explores the many dimensions of French musical heritage across centuries, as both violinist and artistic director.
As a conductor, she has led ensembles such as the Saarländisches Staatorchester, Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, Orchestre d’Auvergne, and Les Violons du Roy. Her operatic work includes assistant conductor roles for productions at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and the Opéra Comique, and in 2022 she conducted La Caravane du Caire by Grétry at the Ópera de Tours.
Since 2012, she has been on faculty at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where she teaches both modern and historical violin. Her teaching reflects her dedication to the transmission of knowledge and to fostering a broad, inclusive vision of classical music.
Her discrography, praised by critics and regularly awared (including a Diapason d’or and Classica's Choc de l’année), reflects her artistic curiosity - from Monteverdi to Tanguy, from grand romantic concertos to intimate violin-harpsichord duos. In autumn 2025, she will release the complete violin concertos of Jean-Marie Leclair with La Diane Française (Nomad Music/CMBV).
A frequent guest on France Musique's La Tribune des Critiques de Disque, she was also the subject of a series of “Grands Entretiens” interviews. In recognition of her contribution to the arts, Stéphanie-Marie Degand was named Chevalière des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture.
